We are partnering with a Portland, OR-based creative services team within a technology company to recruit a Copy Director to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is open due to growth, and this team is expecting to continue to expand as the organization's product offering evolves. As the Copy Director, you will be responsible for overseeing a small team of five writers and editors, ensuring that content is on-brand, consistent and optimized for all channels. You will drive best practices for your team and your own work! You will also play a critical leadership role in this organization, partnering closely with VP and C-level executives to create and execute copy strategy. To be a fit, you should be a copy and content expert with a passion for the technical industry. You should bring previous experience in a similar role, including direct supervisory experience.

This is a permanent position based in Portland, OR but will start remotely. There may be relocation assistance for the right person elsewhere ready to make the move to the PNW. Pay ranges from $110,000 to $125,000 annually, with a full benefits package. 

You will:

  • Oversee writers, editors and content strategists to drive best practices in grammar, writing, style and brand
  • Work closely with other creative and strategic internal leaders to create content strategy that supports and extends marketing initiatives across primarily digital channels
  • Manage the copy and content calendar to ensure writing/editing staff meet deadlines, and partner with other internal creative leaders to develop a cross-functional calendar for creative assets 
  • Partner with other internal teams on creative initiatives to ensure a consistent message across all projects
  • Play a critical role in providing feedback to internal stakeholders, working to scope projects on realistic budgets and timelines
  • Your profile should include:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience within copy, content and writing spaces, with experience directly supervising writing and editing staff; B2B and B2C experience
  • Experience in the technology industry; Experience working with a creative services or agency team
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, PR, Communications or similar; MFA or advanced education preferred
  • 5-10 years of experience as a respected leader in multichannel content creation (publishing, journalism, branded content).
  • Experience brainstorming and creating compelling written content for different target audiences
  • Excellent technical skillset, including experience with Adobe InCopy and project management tools
  • True command of the English language - You're not just a writer but you have fun with your words
