Ideal Position:
I want my work to make a difference in our country. I want to work for a non-profit agency, or an advertising agency with a large non-profit client base, to help reduce problems such as poverty, homelessness and hunger. I am a firm believer in the old adage, "The pen is mightier than the sword."
The most important thing to me is a company who offers flextime and understands the necessity of a good work-life balance. While I'm a workhorse who will give 200 percent, I need time for my family.
I want a company that allows me to work independently and in a team setting, and that doesn't keep me chained to a desk all day.
Past Experience:
I have spent 15 years as a journalist, covering everything from city government to law enforcement. I've seen firsthand how the bottom line affects a community, and have put a face on every issue I've covered.
Currently:
Most recently, I was editor of a 22,000-circulation bi-monthly newspaper. Our focus was community news, so I solicited news from the numerous schools, volunteer organizations, churches and community leaders in our area. Under my direction, we became the first choice for community news submissions, against two larger daily newspapers.
I am proficient in Quark Xpress, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Word. I am taking classes in InDesign and web development. I have won four South Carolina Press Association awards and three Southeastern Advertising Publishers Association awards.
