Ideal Position:
Creating illustrated patient education materials is my ideal position. My ability to translate technical topics
into clear text and illustrations, my knowledge of literacy, and my experience in adult education make me a
good choice to develop materials for chronic conditions, one-time procedures, and discharge care.
Ideal Environment:
My ideal environment is a for-profit or nonprofit organization of any size as long as the culture is collaborative and not too formal. A balance of independence and teamwork — including opportunities to interact with vendors, clients, and experts outside the organization--rounds out the picture.
Past Experience:
For the past 15+ years I have edited and written print and digital student and teacher materials for publishers and development houses. Most of my projects have been elementary reading/language arts, science, and social studies programs. I have strong project management and organizational skills, and I thrive on solving problems collaboratively.
Currently:
When a Chicago medical association needed help revising its asthma education materials, I turned around the youth, teen, and instructor booklets early and on budget. My edits simplified the language, layout, and illustrations. I added activities to engage family members and queried facts. The client was delighted!
Additional:
My technology skills include InDesign/InCopy and a proprietary content management system, and I use Macs and PCs. I've monitored and guided voice talent, recruited and managed freelance writers, and monitored program budgets.
