Paladin is working with a fantastic organization that has a new opening for a Director, Strategic Communications. In this role, you’ll direct the internal and external strategic communication programs and external PR strategy for a national brand. You’ll be responsible for elevating the brand voice and its reputation at the national level with B2B and B2C audiences in addition to key audiences in Washington, D.C., ensuring brand positioning as a leader within the industry.

COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary + bonus

TRAVEL: 10%-15% (domestic)
• Work with marketing and government relations teams to seek new ways to elevate the brand profile in the marketing nationally, in traditional, social media channels and in Washington, D.C.
• Oversee the development and execution of effective PR campaigns, crisis communication plans and messaging strategies.
• Monitor brand reputation across channels including social media to provide support to key internal and external partners to support efforts to position the brand as a national leader.
• Provide internal communications support by developing communication programs and tools for employees.
• Develop media relationships with top national media outlets, as well as with key thought leaders in D.C. that solidify the organization as a top-of-mind authority on all topics related to the industry.
• Develop a deep understanding of the product line, key communications and public policy challenges/opportunities, competitive landscape and industry intel that can be drawn to create impactful messaging and campaign strategies to reinforce brand value.
• Raise visibility across targeted trade and business publications and target B2B/B2C audiences through assorted communication channels including: news releases, bylined articles, blog posts, social media, events, creative new generation, rapid-response pitches and more.
• Proactively identify, engage and build relationships with top-tier and industry media and other influencers across traditional media and social media channels to increase earned media.
• Respond to and manage all media inquiries.
• Develop crisis communication plans and conduct crisis communications training to relevant personnel.
• Serve as point person in crisis communication situations.
• Identify public forums and conversations in the industry with regulators and other audiences.
• Provide strategic and tactical support for communications responses to both expected and unanticipated brand reputation events, applying the principles and skills of media relations, crisis communications, and issues management to protect and enhance the brand.
• Oversee development of toolkits, templates, and programs to support communication needs.
• Serve as a partner with member companies to work closely in providing advice, guidance, and support from a communications and leadership perspective about communications-related issues.
• Oversee management of intranet content, corporate internet and other online tools/programs.
• Oversee the development and refinement of Board of Director’s materials to ensure quality and consistency.
• Oversee development of turnkey internal communications programs that can be used across the enterprise.
• Bachelors’ degree in PR, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or similar.
• MBA or Masters’ preferred but, not required.
• 10+ years of professional experience in driving effective PR strategies, social media and strategic communications.
• Experience in regulated industries i.e. healthcare, insurance, pharmaceuticals is a big plus.
• Experience delivering measurable results to B2B and B2C audiences is a must.
• Experience with high-profile national or international brands strongly preferred.
• Ability to work consultatively with internal partners and manage resources not directly controlled.
• Strong ability to structure complex issues, yet communicate in a simple and easy-to-understand manner.
